OOCL is implementing the next phase of its revenue recovery program with effect from July 1, 2013. Freight rates for traffic from Asia to New Zealand will be increased by US$200 per TEU.
Port cargo volumes rise again in April, imports & exports both up by double digits Overall cargo volumes rose by 12.5% in April 2013, continuing a trend of steadily increasing activity at Port of Long Beach docks.
A total of 519,464 TEU were moved in April. Imports increased 13.5% to 264,337 TEU. Exports increased by 14.5% to 137,864 TEU. Empty containers were up 8.1% to 117,263 TEU. With imports exceeding exports, empties are sent overseas to be refilled with goods.
For the first four months of 2013, cargo container volume was up 17.2%, including 18.5% more imports, 11.8% more exports and 21.5% more empties. These increases are in part due to the larger ships calling at the port more frequently and the addition of service lines starting in later 2012. < Korea Shipping Gazette >
