Hyundai Logistics Starts Road Delivery Service to North Korea
As of August 8th, Hyundai Logistics began trucking to the North for th
e first time since the two Koreas began coo- perating again. Hyu -ndai
Logistics will operate on a co- mmission basis for all kinds of logis
tic services including transportation of construction ma- terials to b
uild the new Pyongyang Gymnasium, packing, customs clearance, stevedor
ing, and drawing up relevant documentation. Hyundai Logistics wishes t
o assume a leading role in transportation in anticipation of upcoming
improved inter-Korean relations. They predict that their logistic syst
ems will help the two Koreas to reconcile by facilitating easier commu
nication and exchange between the South and North. They also maintain
that trucking will be worthwhile for its simplicity of process, low pr
ice, shorter transit time than sea transportation, and that it will as
sume an important place in inter-Korean trade.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Logistics started carrying construction materials b
y sea since January from the head center for North Korea bound transpo
rtation in Inchon South Port.
