The KLSAA held 18th general meeting
The Korea Local Shipping Agencies Association (KLSAA) held their 18th regular general meeting Jan. 12th in the Sejong Hotel, downtown Seoul.
Topics of discussion included the integration of the ISA (International Shipping Agencies) with the KLSAA in the second half of this year, payment of freight arrival fees for shippers, and the over abundance of shipping agencies since th deregulation from the old MOMAF permission system, to the new simple registration system.
After Kwon Soo-un, president of Shinyang shipping, resigned as president of the KLSAA on account of illness in late May, Lee Yong-woo, president of Daedong shipping and ex-senior vice president of the KLSAA succeeded the president, leaving one more year on the presidential throne. President Lee criticized the International Shipping Agencies for trying to prevent the KLSAA from doing their job. The KLSAA accepted integrating the two shipping agencies into one category but disagreed with unifying the two shipping agencies' associations into one, referring to the different character of each association's work.
In addition, freight arrival fees made shipping agencies nervous about receiving fees from shippers. Many fly by night agencies have suddenly cropped up since th registration system was introduced, said participants in the meeting.
