Hanjin positions brand new 4,500TEU vessel in CEX
Hanjin Shipping (www.hanjin.com) is reinforcing its China service by placing a brand new 4,500 TEU container vessel named the ?Hanjin Phoenix?in its China ?Europe Express Service (CEX), the company announced on January 26.
The trade has been jointly operated since 1995by Hanjin and Sinotrans, a Chinese shipping company, with 9 2,700 TEU vessels . However, both companies are trying to the competitiveness of the trade with 4,500 TEU vessels. If Hanjin deploys three more 4,500 TEU vessels, the trade will have 8 vessels that size. This faster vessel fleet is expected to bring savings of $10 million annually with faster services and broader capacities.
In the mean time, CEX started its operation from December 27, 2001 from Quingdao and calls as follow:
Xingang or Tianjin (Sun/Mon) ?Quingdao (Tue/Wed) ?Shanghai (Fri/Sat) ?Chiwan (Mon/Tue) ?Singapore (Fri/Sat) ?Hamburg (Thu/Fri) ?Rotterdam (Sun/Mon) - Felixtowe (Sun/Mon) ?Singapore (Mon/Sun) ?Hong Kong (Wed/Thu).
The ?Hanjin Phoenix?is chartered on a long term basis from F.Laeisz, a German shipowner that has purchased vessels from Hanjin Heavy Industry in the past. It is one in a series of vessels along with the ?Hanjin Praha? which is 58,724 dead weight tons (dwt) and capable of loading 4,389 TEU. It measures 282 meters long, 21.5 meters deep and 32.2 meters wide with a cruising speed of 24.3 knots.
