Gwangyang handles 1 million TEU by November

Coming this year, Gwangyang showed regular traffic volume every month, averaging about 100 thousand TEU monthly with 101,180 TEU in November. Gwangyang totaled 1.08 million TEU up to the end of November. November traffic showed a moderate increase of 11.9% compared to the same period of last year, 90,452 TEU. Gwangyang expected to handle 1.2 million TEU during the period, which is still far less than its earlier estimate of 1.5 million TEU.
One official from Gwangyang city said, ?e are offering volume incentives to discount port dues by up to 50% maximum depending on the volume. We also set up a port representative in China, hoping to attract more cargoes to Gwangyang. We are expecting that next year to be better.? He revealed that two mother vessels planned to call at Gwangyang from next year, adding 100 thousand TEU to its volume. The 2-2 phase of KIT terminal will also open next June, drawing even more cargoes.
