MOMAF attends 78th MSC at IMO
MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries) sent representatives to the Maritime Safety Committee at IMO on May 12th, which continues through to the 21st. Representatives included Lee Jang Hoon, the security policy official at MOMAF, and other related official and specialists from shipbuilding companies, and academia, for a total of eighteen.
Korea plans to be a leading participant in the organization and to examine the agenda for improving maritime safety and security.
The representatives plan to explain Korea's reasons for accepting ISPS Code on May 17th. During the explanation, they hope to garner member countries' faith in Korean ships and ports for their observance of ISPS Code.
One representative said, "We try to help our ships avoid restrictions at foreign ports through official and unofficial contacts."
