Namegiving of newbuilding L 195 from Odense Steel Shipyard

On Friday 7 January 2005 Odense Steel Shipyard present-ed its newbuild-ing L 195 for Safmarine Con-tainer Lines N.V.

Mrs Roswitha Kopke, accom-panied by her husband, Ch-ristoph Kopke, Chairman, DaimlerChrysler South Africa (Pty) Ltd, honoured the Owner by naming the newbuilding SAFMARINE NOKWANDA.

SAFMARINE NOKWANDA, which is built and delivered in continuation of her sister vessel SAFMARINE NOMAZWE, has a length of 266 metres, a breadth of 37 metres and a capacity of 3,700 twenty-foot containers.

SAFMARINE NOKWANDA is equipped with an 8-cylinder HSD-Wartsila Sulzer diesel engine, which develops 45,700 kW at 102 revolutions per minute - equivalent to 62,200 BHP.

After delivery SAFMARINE NOKWANDA will enter into Safmarine Container Lines N.V.'s liner service between South Africa and Europe.

SAFMARINE NOKWANDA, which has a crew of 15, is registered in Bristol and will be commanded by Captain Christoffel W. Kortum with Robert J. Lawson as Chief Engineer.
