1 million tons through Mokpo New Port

Mokpo New Port, the first domestic port from private capital, has handled one million tons of cargoes since it opened in November of last year.

Mokpo Newport Co., Ltd. announced on June 7 that it recorded over one million tons thanks to handling export vehicles of the Kia Motors factory in Kwangju, container cargoes from Bowater-Halla Paper Co., steel structures from SHI (Samsung Heavy Industries) and used cars. Mokpo Newport Company held a celebratory ceremony for handling one million tons of cargoes under the 'Mokpo Newport, New Jump for the World' theme at Mokpo Newport on June 8.

Attendance at the ceremony included Mokpo mayor Jeong Jong Deuk, Jeong Jin Kwan from the Mokpo Regional Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office, and Mokpo Newport employees. Prizes were awarded to those who played important roles in achieving the one million ton mark.

Mokpo Newport expects to handle 2.5 million tons cargoes annually at its current pace.
