Yang Ming names and launches new container ship
YM Utopia, an 8,200 TEU full-container vessel built for Yang Ming by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, was delivered and named at a ceremony held at the CSBC Kaohsiung Shipyard on June 27, 2008. Chairman W.H. Huang of Yang Ming, and Chairman Wen-Lon Cheng of CSBC, jointly presided over the naming ceremony. Mrs. Susan Chu Siew, wife of the vice president, was invited to sponsor the ship.
To meet the booming market and enhance the company's competitiveness, Yang Ming will have five newly built 4,250 TEU full-container ships, three 8,250 TEU full-container ships and one bulk vessel to be delivered in succession. The YM Utopia is the second 8,200 TEU container ship built by CSBC. With its expanding fleet, Yang Ming can offer its customers more timely services.
Yang Ming plans to deploy the YM Utopia in the AE3 Service (Asia Europe Loop 3). The AE3 Service links up Xingang, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Shekou, Singapore, Jeddah, the Suez, Port Said, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Thamesport and Xingang.
