Imports Dominated by Oil Products and Exports by Cars
Container cargoes from the Port of Inchon have increased steadily comi
ng into this year.
According to the Inchon Port Authority, during the first quarter of th
is year, cargoes handled in Inchon amounted to 305,103 TEU, up 12 perc
ent compared to the same period last year.
Ocean-going container cargoes increased 14 percent, to 237,814 TEU, of
which inbound cargoes rose to 131,415 TEU, up 13 percent, and outboun
d cargoes to 106,399 TEU, up 17 percent. Coastal cargoes rose to 67,28
9 TEU, an increase of 6 percent.
By item, oil products occupied the lion's share with 33.5 percent or 2
0,029,000 tons of the total while sand followed with 19.1 percent or 1
1,403,000 tons. Chemical products showed the steepest increase of all,
recording a 120 percent jump over last year.
Among import items, oil products consumed the largest portion with 34.
6 percent, rising 30 percent over the same period last year. The highe
st increases were shown by sand, cement, cars, and steel in turn.
Among export cargoes, cars occupied the biggest part, 37.8 percent. Ch
emical products showed the highest increase, up 244 percent over last
year.
