4.7% container increase in Pusan by May
Container cargoes at the Port of Pusan for the five months from January to May, grew by 4.7 percent to 3.17 million TEU, slightly more than the 3.03 million for the same period of last year.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries unveiled the results for the first five months of this year showing that it handled 991,098 TEU of import cargoes, down by 1.3 percent from 1,003,918 TEU. Exports grew by 0.5 percent to 1,060,489 TEU from 1,007,748 TEU. Transit cargoes jumped by 21.6 percent to 1,175,695 TEU from 966,827 TEU during the same period of last year.
General wharves treated 1,005,046 TEU of containers, up 5.8 percent over last year's 949,641 TEU. Kamman terminal showed similar amounts to last year, 738,152 TEU. Pusan East Container Terminal (PECT) leaped by 14.3 percent to 552,537 TEU from 483,390 TEU a year earlier. However, HBCT (Hyundai Busan Container Terminal) fell by 6.2 percent to 541,667 TEU from 577,351 TEU.
Meanwhile, entry vessels between 20,000 and 50,000 tons totaled 1,261, an increase of 8.9 percent while vessels over 50,000-tons numbered 367, showing a 34.9 percent growth. Container vessels increased by 8 percent, counting 3,456.
