Pusan MOMAF publishes 'liner container ship survey'

Pusan MOMAF conducted a 'liner container ship survey' of domestic and foreign shipping liners for the first 6 months this year, announcing the results September 16.
According to survey, 12 domestic shipping lines and 37 foreign shipping lines run 569 container ships at the Port of Pusan.
Hanjin shipping handles the largest number of container ships, 70 vessels, HMM coming in second with 41 vessels, KMTC and WOOSUNG tied for third with 28 vessels each, and fourth being shared by Heung-A and P&O with 27 vessels each.
Handling rates of container by shipping companies are as follows: Hanjin Shipping (255,000 TEU) ranked top, HMM (132,000 TEU) ranked second, Maersk Sealand (110,000 TEU), WOOSUNG Shipping (105,000 TEU), P&O (85,000 TEU), and Evergreen (84,000 TEU). The top 10 companies handled 72% of all containers.
Container ships that touch at the Port of Pusan call at cumulative total of 1,563 ports. In detail, the companies calling at the most ports were KMTC (126 ports), P&O (115 ports), Heung-A (110 ports), Hanjin Shipping (91 ports) and HMM (91 ports).
Shipping liners that call at the Port of Pusan by continental regions were as follows: North-East Asia (44.2%) ranked highest, South-East Asia (17.5%), North America (13.4%), Europe (8.3%), and Oceania (4.2%).
The ranking was similar for calling rates by region: North-East Asia (23.9%) ranked highest, North America (20.4%), Europe (13.8%), South-East Asia (16%), and South America (9.3%).
Not surprising, calling percentages by nation in all ports of call were as follows: Korea (21.7%), Japan (18.5%), China (17.2%), U.S. (6.3%), Taiwan (4.9%), Singapore (4.5%), Malaysia (2.5%), U.K (2.1%), and Thailand (1.7%). Asian nations accounted for 71%.
Calling cycles of ships that call at the Port of Pusan were heavily lob-sided: 7-day calling schedules accounted for 87% of all, 3?day schedules (3.7%), 2-day schedules (3.3%), 30-day and 40-day schedules at 1.4% each, and 2-week and 3-week schedules at 0.9% each.
Pusan MOMAF announced that they would let shipping companies and shipping agents use the results of survey for opening routes, changing routes, adjusting ports of call and calling ships, etc. They plan to conduct regular surveys biennially.
