Incheon Airport increases transshipment cargoes
Incheon International Airport handled 40,000 tons of transshipment cargoes, exporting those transshipped air cargoes after they arrive at the port by marine transportation.
According to the customs house at the airport, the airport handled sea-to-air transshipment cargoes of 33,437 tons (32,742 shipments) in 2003, 39,415 tons (41,079 shipments) in 2004 and handled 44,048 tons (43,763 shipments) last year.
Incheon Airport has been handling sea-to-air transshipment cargoes from Qingdao, Yentai and other places in China. These cargoes are exported by air to other countries including the U.S. and Europe after being forwarded to the airport from Incheon Port and Pyoungtaek Port from Chinese ports
Sea-to-air transshipment cargoes create 3,500,000 won in additional income per ton due to stevedoring work, bonded transportation, warehousing, repacking, loading, and other related tasks. This resulted in 150 billion won of additional income last year.
Meanwhile, Incheon Airport exports of sea-to-air and air-to-air transshipment cargoes stood at 43% of all handled cargoes in 2004 and 42% last year. These figures and volumes put Incheon Airport in place as a major North East Asian hub airport.
