HMM receives Green Flag award from Long Beach

Hyundai Merchant Marine was awarded a Green Flag by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners.

Long Beach Port has run its Port of Long Beach Air Program from 2001 to decrease smoke by ships, trains, trucks and stevedoring equipment. Especially, the port has controlled the operation speed of ships to under 12knots within 20 miles of the port to prevent polluted air from ships which call at the port and awarded 'Green Flags' to companies with vessels that observe the environmentally friendly rules best.

HMM won a Green Flag with 98% observance, which was the highest of all companies with more than 100 legs of travel to the port. The company was awarded for their five vessels. HMM can save about 300,000 dollars in costs because these vessels will receive discounted dockage fee of 15%.
