Yang Ming to upgrade Its Asia-U.S. East Coast Service

April 11, 2011 -Yang Ming, as a member line of the CKYH - the Green Alliance (Coscon, K-Line, Yang Ming, Hanjin Shipping), announced an upgrade for one of its Far East - U.S. East Coast services, AWE-5, from the end of April 2011.

The AWE-5 service is currently operated jointly with Hanjin Shipping with a total of nine 4,250-4,300 TEU class vessels via the Panama Canal. As a new partner, Coscon will join in the operation and all the vessels employed will be upgraded to 5,500 TEU vessles via the Suez Canal.

The port rotation for this new AWE-5 service is as follows :

Kaohsiung-Hong Kong-Yantian-Ho Chi Minh-Singapore-(Suez Canal)-New York-Norfolk-Boston-(Suez Canal)-Singapore-Kaohsiung.

With its own vessels direct calling at Ho Chi Minh and Boston, Yang Ming will be in a position for further growth in these markets.

Moreover, Yang Ming will maintain competitive transit times for AWE-5 from South China to New York. In addition to the AWE-5 upgrade plan, Yang Ming will add Shanghai as a port of call to its AWE-3 service.

The details of Yang Ming's five service routes between the Far East and U.S. East Coast are as follows :

AWE-1 : Qingdao-Ningbo-Shanghai-Pusan-(Panama Canal)-New York-Wilmington-Savannah-(Panama Canal)-Pusan-Qingdao. Vessels deployed : Nine 4,024 TEU class vessels

AWE-2 : Qingdao-Shanghai-Ningbo-Yokohama-(Panama Canal)-Savannah-Norfolk-New York-Boston-(Panama Canal)-Qingdao. Vessels deployed : Nine 4,200-5,100 TEU class vessels

AWE-3 : Hong Kong-Yantian-Kaohsiung- Shanghai-Pusan-(Panama Canal)-Savannah-Charleston-Wilmington-Hong Kong. Vessels deployed : Nine 4,250 TEU class vessels by Yang Ming

AWE-4 : Ho Chi Minh-Shekou-Hong Kong-Yantian-Singapore-(Suez Canal)-Halifax -New York - Norfolk-Jacksonville-Savannah-Singapore-Ho Chi Minh. Vessels deployed : Nine 5,500 TEU class vessels

AWE-5 : Kaohsiung-Hong Kong-Yantian-Ho Chi Minh-Singapore-(Suez Canal)-New York-Norfolk-Boston-(Suez Canal)-Singapore-Kaohsiung. Vessels deployed : Nine 5,500 TEU class vessels by Yang Ming, Hanjin Shipping, and Coscon.
