In connection with South Korea’s president Moon Jae-in visiting Norway, a business delegation from Korea visited Wallenius Wilhelmsen headquarters in Oslo on 11 June. The delegation consisted of Ki Tae Park, CEO of KHAN Precision Industry Co., Weonyong Lee, CEO of Techheim Co., Joonseok Min, Executive Director of ECOPRO Co., and Soungjin Kim, Executive Director of CMT Co.
The companies are active in areas such as manufacturing, engineering, industry and software. Their representatives held short presentations outlining how their solutions work and what their companies comprise. This was followed by a presentation by Geir Fagerheim, SVP Marine Operations at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, who gave a company presentation and outlined areas of interest for co-operation with Korean vendors, such as solutions supporting the group’s sustainability ambitions.
”Wallenius Wilhelmsen has a long history of partnerships with Korean shipbuilders and technology suppliers, and we are encouraged by observing the growing interest in developing sustainable products and solutions. We are honored by the Korean business delegation paying Wallenius Wilhelmsen a visit amidst their busy meeting itinerary,” said Fagerheim.
In a question and answer session, the group discussed the use of aluminium in vehicle carrier designs- looking at the cost-benefit ratio and the difference in value between steel and aluminium - combined with the fuel-saving potential for lighter ships.
Fagerheim commented on the strength of the shipbuilding industry in Koreaand he added that productivity improvements and sustainable innovations will be key competitive factors for the Korean suppliers in the years ahead. The group also discussed alternative power sources such as biofuels, wind and hydrogen.
