P&O Nedlloyd to upgrade Amazon services
P&O Nedlloyd is to upgrade its existing feeder services from Panama to Manaus (Brazil) to a weekly frequency from July 2001 onwards.
Connecting in Panama to weekly mainline arrivals from Asia, the new Amazon feeder service will consist of 4 vessels, offering solutions tailored to meet customer demand in Asia, as well as upgrading the connection from the USA to the Amazon Region.
In addition, the service will further enhance P&O Nedlloyd's coverage of the West Coast South America. By transiting the Panama Canal every other sailing, the service will ensure customers fast relay connections via Callao, the Port of Manzanillo (Panama), and Cartagena into P&O Nedlloyd's Global network, including a further improved coverage of the Intra-Latin America Markets.
The new service rotation will be as follows:
Callao - Guayaquil - Buenaventura - Panama - Cartagena - Manaus - Belem - Port of Spain - Cartagena - Panama - Cartagena - Manaus - Belem - Port of Spain - Cartagena - Panama - Buenaventura - Callao
This development follows the recent upgrade of P&O Nedlloyd's other Amazon service, through which they already offer fortnightly relay-connections from South East Asia and Europe to Manaus via Santos.
Hans Meurs, Director of P&O Nedlloyd Asia Region & Trades, commented: "P&O Nedlloyd has been in the Manaus trade for many years, and is today the only carrier offering two dedicated services from Asia to the Amazon Region. With a weekly service via Panama and a fortnightly service via Santos, our unique and unparalleled service reconfirms P&O Nedlloyd's commitment to the trade. We shall continue to build on our historic strong presence in the Latin American Region".
