VTS development workshop held
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) said that it held a workshop aimed at strengthening the capacity of Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) from November 15 to 16, 2007.
At the workshop, an amendment to relevant VTS laws and VTS introduction was presented by relevant experts, followed by discussions among participants.
An official from MOMAF said that staff concerned with VTS and experts came together and presented cases to improve VTS as well as discuss emerging problems.
“The workshop will also provide a platform to draw up guidelines for efficient operation of VTS and establish advanced VTS through reflecting the outcome of the workshop into the formulation of policies" added the official.
Through the workshop, the ministry aimed to prepare a mid and long-term plan for VTS operation as well as utilize VTS to prevent marine accidents.
