Jeongin Shipping Chosen as Carrier in Masan/ Shimonoseki Direct Trade

Jeongin Shipping was appointed as a carrier running in the Masan/Shimo
noseki direct trade route on August 30th. This trade route is the firs
t opened by a local government and a local port authority together, bu
t losses are anticipated. They hope to reinvigorate the local economy
through sea bass fishing.
On 27 April, the Kyungsangnamdo local government and the Port Authorit
y of Masan held a briefing session about the Masan/Shimonoseki direct
trade in the Hilton Hotel with invited shipping companies. During the
sessions, Jeongin shipping and Heunga Shipping handed in letters of in
tent for investment for that route. Between the two of them, a screeni
ng committee composed of shippers and experts on shipping picked up Je
ongin shipping on the basis of vessel capacities, Port of Masan and Sh
imonoseki conditions, their ability to carry out business, and support
terms for each company.
This route is scheduled to open in the middle of September, and is exp
ected to save agricultural and fishery logistic costs for export produ
cts. It will further help to advance local sea transportation by calli
ng 3 times a week, and eventually moving to daily service.
Jeongin Shipping is a subsidiary company of Daewoo, the domestic partn
er for Inchon/Yantian trade. It started as a shipping agency in 1997,
and took over the G-marine shipping in September 1998. It has since gr
own as a professional frozen product carrier.
