Loading Cargoes Increased in the Ports of Kunsan and Mokpo
Loading cargoes have gradually increased in Korean ports since March,
2000.
According to the Korea Stevedoring Association, stevedoring cargoes in
domestic ports rose to 103,792,000 tons, up 13.3% over the same perio
d last year. Stevedoring income grew 10.1 percent to 183.26 billion wo
n.
The Port of Pusan handled 31,412,000 tons, up 12.7 percent for the fi
rst quarter of 2000. The Port of Incheon showed a 12.4 percent increas
e to 17,444,000 tons. The port of Ulsan recorded a high growth rate of
30.5 percent to 9,391,000 tons. If crude oil and chemical products ar
e included, Ulsan port handled the most tonnage, (37,839,000 tones), o
f all domestic ports.
The Port of Masan, demonstrated firm growth, increasing by 18.2 percen
t to 6,452,000 tons, while the Port of Kunsan hit 7,054,000 tons, a dr
amatic 44.3 percent increase. The Port of Mokpo had the highest growth
rate, 81.7 percent to 1,875,000 tons.
On the other hand, the Port of Yeosu fell by 6.2 percent to 13,056,000
tons. The Port of Tonghae decreased as well, to 2,740,000 tons (down
