Korea/Japan shipping companies to push for CFS increase

Shipping companies operating in Korea and Japan trade routes are pushing for an increase in Container Freight Station (CFS) surcharges.

According to related parties, shipping companies in Korea and Japan trades banded together to increase CFS surcharges on July 27 and went into negotiations with the Korea Shipper's Council.

These are followed by the judgment that the current CFS charge, 4,500 won, hasn't increased since April 1, 1992. Also the Korea and Japan trade CFS charge is the lowest amongst trade routes.

CFS charges per ton in each trade are as follows: North America bound trade - 12,000 won, Europe bound trade - 5,500 won, Australia bound trade - 5,500 won, Middle East bound trade - 15,600 won, Russia bound - 5,500 won, Southeast Asia and China - 4,500 won, and Japan - 4,500 won.
