Korean Government decided not to allow Wan Hai line to establish its b
ranch office in Korea.
Embarassed by the Taiwanese government’s decision to withhold a Korea
n shipping company’s request that they be allowed to set up their bra
nch office in Taiwan, the Korean Government in turn decided not to per
mmit Taiwanese shipping companies to establish their branch office in
Korea.
Therefore, the factual thing was that the Korea Maritime and Port Admi
nistration passed its decision to decline a Taiwanese shipping company
, Wan Hai Line’s request of setting up its branch office in Korea.
For this matter , KMPA has given their further explanation that such d
ecision was made as a kind of tit for tat action against Taiwanese Gov
ernment’s action to withhold Hyundai Merchant Marine’s demand under
the pretext of the current delicate political situation between the tw
o countries. HMM, which has a exclusive terminal in Kaohsiung, had pre
viously requested Taiwanese Government to allow its branch office in T
aiwan.
