Comprehensive Range of Luminescent Yfestos Pictograms on Board Finnish

On board the Finnish patrol vessel Telkka large-scale use is made of
green luminescent Yfestos pictograms produced to IMO specifications by
Beele Engineering B.V. of Aalten, the Netherlands(Beunkdijk 11, 7122
NZ, the Netherlands, tel.(+31) 543 461673, fax (+31) 543 461786). The
Finnish patrol vessel, built by Uudenkaupungin Tyovene oy, is the firs
t ship to be completely equipped with luminescent and temperature-resi
stant Yfestos pictograms.
The green luminescent pictograms are intended above all to indicate e
scape routes, the advised direction to walk, and rescue equipment (lif
ejackets, lifeboats, stc.) and also to identify equipment and systems
that are dangerous to touch or that are of vital importance in an emer
gency. These include pumping systems, high-voltage and other electrica
l systems, as well as the sprinkler, CO2 and fire-fighting systems.
The pictograms present on board the vessel are either screen-printed
on aluminium or in the form of screen-printed stickers.
Should fire should break out, the great density of fumes will soon ma
ke it impossible to see the illuminated signs marking emergency exits,
among other things. These signs are usually positioned above doorways
, and the rising smoke will therefore conceal them from sight.
