10.5 percent Rise in Revenues of Korean Carriers

For the first quarter of this year, the total revenues of Korean carri
ers in the inbound , outbound and crisscross trade reached $2,559,045,
000, an increase of 10.5 percent compared to those of last year, ($2,3
15,283,000).
The amount of cargoes in the same trades, however, decreased by 2.8 p
ercent to 119,475,000 tons compared to 122,911,000 tons last year.
According to the Korea Shipowner's Association, Korean carriers transp
orted 15,433,000 tons of export cargoes, an increase of 3.7 percent, a
nd earned $588,612,000 over last year, up 12.2 percent.
64,779,000 tons of import cargoes were carried in the inbound trade, g
rowing by 5.7 percent over the last year. Finally, revenue income hit
$708,954,000, showing a 20.9 percent increase.
