Closer cooperation between Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Sud
In addition to jointly operating services to the South American West
Coast and the Caribbean, Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Sud will now also coo
perate offering services to the South American East Coast. The shippin
g lines are also examining possibilities for further joint ventures.
The traditional German shipping lines Hapag-Lloyd and Hamburg-Sud hav
e been cooperating closely for decades, Hapag-Lloyd focusing on the gl
obal East-West routes and Hamburg-Sud on North-South services.
The partners have now decided to expand their collaboration even furt
her. An initial agreement has been concluded for services linking Euro
pe with the South American East Coast. At the beginning of next year H
apag-Lloyd will act as a partner in the two existing full container se
rvices of Hamburg-Sud calling at all the main ports on the South Ameri
can East Coast.
The "Brazil and River Plate Service" with weekly departures will serv
e Southampton, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrugge and Le Havre in Europe an
d Santos, Sao Francisco, Rio Grande and Buenos Aires in South America.
Six containerships each capable of carrying 2,150 standard containers
(TEU) will be deployed.
The "Brazil Express Service" will offer weekly departures from Felixs
towe, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Zeebrugge and Le Havre to Santos and Paranag
ua. The ports of Suape, Salvador and Rio de Janeiro will also be calle
d at every fortnight. The six vessels to be deployed on this service w
ill each have a capacity of 1,675 TEU.
