KMTC takes delivery of two 1,600 TEU container vessels
The Korea Marine Transport Co., Ltd. (KMTC) held a naming ceremony on Feb. 26 at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) on Koje island, South Kyoungsang province, for the "KMTC SINGAPORE" and the "KMTC JAKARTA" ordered for SHI in July 1999. These two vessels were ordered with the purpose of strengthening the shippers' services and competitiveness in Southeast Asia. The "KMTC SINGAPORE" is scheduled for delivery Feb. 27th and the "KMTC JAKARTA" at the end of March.
They are the fifth and sixth state-of-the-art fast vessels for SHI in a series of 1,600 TEU full containerships, 171 meters in length, 27.2 meters in width, equipped with navigation and communication facilities, and having average sailing speed of 20.3 knots. The "KMTC SINGAPORE" will replace the "KMTC ULSAN" in a current Indonesian trade calling in Ulsan/Pusan/Keelung/Hong Kong/Singapore/Jakarta. The "KMTC JAKARTA" will replace the "KMTC PUSAN".
According to these replacements, the "KMTC PUSAN" and the "KMTC ULSAN" will be deployed in another Indonesian trade, adding Xiamen, China, as of March 4, probably calling in Pusan/Xiamen/HongKong/Singapore/Jakarta/Surabaya.
