Evergreen enters into a slot exchange agreement with the New World Alliance
Evergreen Marine Corp (Taiwan) has entered into a slot exchange agreement with the carriers which comprise The New World Alliance (TNWA). The agreement, which is effective from early May, covers trades involving North America and Asia.
In the exchange, Evergreen will sell 1,000 TEU of slots to TNWA - 500 TEU on Evergreen's Round the World service and another 500 TEU on the AUE service, a weekly all-water route between the Far East and the US East Coast ports.
In return, EMC will purchase 300 TEU slots on TNWA's PNX trade route (Far East/ Pacific Northwest service), explains an Evergreen spokesman:
"In early May, Evergreen will re-route its TPN service rotation which only covers Japan via Osaka.
"The TNWA service will allow us to maintain and carry direct cargoes from Tokyo and Nagoya to Pacific Northwest ports and, vice versa, to carry direct cargoes from Pacific Northwest ports to Tokyo, Nagoya and Kobe."
With the new TPN service, Evergreen will be able to shorten transit times in the Pacific Northwest region service by up to two days. For example, Kaohsiung to Tacoma is reduced from 14 days to 13 days, and on the return from 14 days to12 days.
