Container cargoes slipped by 3% in April thru Inchon
By April, integrated cargoes through the Port of Inchon stuck fast at the same levels as a year ago.
Inchon Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed that entire cargoes coming this year amounted to 39,727,000 tons, almost the same as quantities last year's 39,792,000 tons.
Export cargoes stood at 5,099,000 tons, or 13% of all cargoes nationwide, or 22% of nationwide import and export cargoes. This figure dropped by 18% from 6,242,000 tons a year earlier. This was accounted for by the decrease in car exports from Kia Motors and Daewoo Motors, bringing about a 47% shrink to 1,080,000 tons of export cargoes, according to the pont of Inchon. The main export items were cars and car parts (26.8%), chemical products (18%), and steel (14.4%).
Coastal cargoes occupied 16,261,000 tons, or 41 percent of cargoes. In particular, sand increased by 25 percent compared with a year ago and cement jumped by 32 percent during the same period.
