Overseas transit cargoes continue to accelerate in Pusan
Overseas transit cargoes sustained inflowing container-cargoes in the port of Pusan for two months in a row this year.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed that container cargoes in Pusan recorded 1,181,166 TEU, up 4.1 percent, even though imports fell by 6.9 percent to 361,660 TEU, and exports were down 2.5 percent to 381,741 TEU. Overseas transit cargoes led the total flow increase, jumping 26 percent to 420,081 TEU compared to the same period of the previous year.
Broken down by container terminal, HBCT (Hyundai Busan Container Terminal) recorded 196,768 TEU, down 3.6 percent. Export cargoes at HBCT shrank by 7.6 percent to record 65,472 TEU, and imports slid by 1.3 percent to 64,016 TEU. Overseas transit cargoes, however, jumped 39.2 percent to 67,195 TEU.
PECT (Pusan East Container Terminal) marked a total of 203,337 TEU, showing a 3.9 percent increase. Export cargoes and imports decreased to 62,548 TEU and 69,247 TEU respectively, while transit cargoes at this terminal rose by 29.5 percent.
Uam terminal, even though having suffered from transportation union strikes last year, presented high growth rates in the first two months of this year compared to the same period of 2000. It handled 52,332 TEU, up 16.5 percent. Export cargoes and imports as well as overseas transit cargoes showed strong increasing tendencies.
The Kamman Terminal reported handling 281,979 TEU two months in a row this year, a mere 1.4 percent increase. Import cargoes dropped drastically by 19.0 percent to 82,691 TEU and exports slightly increased by 2.7 percent to 98,371 TEU. Overseas transit cargoes posted high growth rates of 25.7 percent.
