Car exports through Inchon drop suddenly
Container cargoes in the Port of Inchon shrank during the first two months of 2001 over the same period last year.
According to Inchon Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, container cargoes through the port fell to 83,281 TEU by February, down 8 percent from a year earlier. Among them, ocean-going containers decreased by 5 percent to 65,179 TEU, accounting for a 5 percent decrease in imports to 34,717 TEU and a likewise decrease in exports to 30,180 TEU. Coastal container cargoes also dropped suddenly by 20 percent to 18,102 TEU.
Export cars loaded from Inchon drastically shrank by 53 percent to 46,699 units by February compared with the same period of the previous year.
By item, oil took 44.5 percent of the total, recording 8,107,000 tons, and sand occupied an 11.8 percent share.
Cars and automobile parts took the lion's share of export cargoes, recording 606,000 tons or 24.1 percent. Chemical products followed with 21.5 percent and oil was next with a 17.4 percent share.
For import cargoes, oil took first place with a 47.6 percent share, or 4,472,000 tons, and grains took second with 12.4 percent.
