Transshipment cargoes lead increasing flow January in Pusan
Coming this year, the Port of Pusan will gain more transshipment cargoes in place of its drastically decreased share of ocean-going cargoes.
According to Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, ocean-going cargoes posted a 9.5 percent increase this January to 626,479 TEU compared to the same period a year earlier. Export cargoes dropped by 4.4 percent to 189,994 TEU, and imports fell by 4.1 percent to 190,165 TEU. However, overseas transshipment cargoes jumped by 44.5 percent, reaching 238,535 TEU. Domestic transshipment cargoes decreased by 19.2 percent to 8,685 TEU.
Broken down by harbor, container terminal handling results showed that HBCT (Hyundai Busan Container Terminal) recorded 103,330 TEU, up 4.7 percent. Among them export cargoes fell by 12.7 percent, and imports grew by 6.5 percent. Transshipment cargoes for overseas jumped 81.5 percent; on the other hand, domestic cargoes drastically shrank by 99.2 percent.
PECT (Pusan East Container Terminal) marked a total of 111,173 TEU, up 8.3 percent. Export cargoes decreased by 10.9 percent, while imports fell by 3.5 percent. Transshipment cargoes at the terminal increased by 47.8 percent.
The Kamman Terminal handled 152,227 TEU for last January, posting a 15.8 percent increase. Export cargoes are showing an increase of 10.5 percent, and imports a decrease of 19 percent. Transshipment cargoes for overseas saw a 68.4 percent growth.
