HHI gets first LPG vessel order from Japan
Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., announced on Feb. 21 that it received an order from the Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (M.O.L) for one 35,000 cubic meter LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) hauler.
This LPG carrier has dimensions of 174 meters in length, 28 meters in width, and 17.8 meters in depth. Equipped with 18,420 BHP (Horse Power) engine it will serve 17.1 knots, in addition to state-of-the art communications and navigation facilities. It is scheduled for delivery in the latter half of 2003.
Traditionally, Japanese shipping companies would place orders for ships that required high technology, like LPG Carriers, only with shipyards in their homeland. Placing a high value-added ship order with a company in Korea is a notable event.
