Dramatic Increase in Corgoes handled by the Port of Pusan
Growth of ocean going cargoes entering port of Pusan continued in the
first quarter of this year. According to Port Authority of Pusan, tota
l ocean going cargoes during the first three months represents an over
all growth of 19.6% over the same period of last year - to 24,036,000
tons.
Specifically, import cargo grew by 39.1% to 12,761,000 tons and export
s increased slightly by 3.3% to 11,275,000 tons.
The largest share of imports were cargoes from China and South East As
ia, showing 41.5% and 38.5% increases, respectively. On the other hand
, total container volume in the Port of Pusan increased 24.1% to 1,769
,978 teu ( twenty foot equivalent units ). In detail, import cargoes s
howed a 13.3% increase to 586,521 teu and export to 620,126 teu, up 12
.8%. In the case of transhipment cargoes, ocean going cargoes rose 531
,793 teu, up 63.1% and domestic fell to 31,538 teu, down 2.5%.
