KwangYang, Active for Transshipping Center
China shipping, one of the biggest Chinese container liners, decided t
o utilize KwangYang, located in southwestern South Korea, for transshi
pping in the new North China/ U.S West Coast container service route.
M/V Edinburgh, which totals 55,889 dead weight tons, made its maiden c
all in KwangYang on June 27, and a commemoration was held on June 28th
at 11 o?lock, in the Korea Express container terminal, where heads
of local organizations and firms participated. Edinburgh will call in
Lianyungang, Qingdao, Shanghai, Hakada, KwangYang, L.A, Oakland, Yokoh
ama and Lianyungang. Cargoes bound for the West Coast of North America
from Dalian, and Tianjin in North China will be transshipped in Kwang
Yang. Further local cargoes bound for America will be shipped from the
re, if possible.
China shipping has transshipped cargoes bound for North America in Kob
e, and Yokohama, Japan, but now is changing KwangYang for transshipme
nt. This shipping line has plans to call in Kwangyang three times a we
ek, once for weekly service, and twice a week for feeder service. Abou
t 50,000 TEU containers are expected in KwangYang annually.
