Inchon presents 6% increase last year
Container records in the Port of Inchon have increased for the last year. According to Inchon Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, the total figure has risen by 6% from a year earlier to record 611,261 TEU in 2000. Ocean-going containers grew by 8%, totaling 483,342 TEU. In that figure, export cargoes increased by 7%, 209,641 TEU, and import cargoes increased 9% to 273,701 TEU. Near sea cargoes stagnated with 127,919 TEU and dragged the figure down.
Cars, however, decreased by 1% compared with the previous year, 1999, exporting only 557,210 units. By item, oil took the lion's share with 33.1%, handling 39,896,000 tons. Sand followed with a 20.7% share. The Port of Inchon predominantly exported cars and automobile parts, while importing oil.
