Pusan ranks third largest container handler among world ports
Pusan beat Kaohsiung, Taiwan with increasing transshipment cargoes last year and emerged as the third container port in cargo handling.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries unveiled Jan. 18th that Pusan posted gains of 17.1 percent in 2000, up to 7.54 million TEU from 6.43 million TEU. This figure is expected to exceed that of Kaohsiung, estimated to be 7.42 million TEU last year, helping the Port of Pusan to the title of 3rd largest container port.
Transshipment cargoes were recorded as 2.38 million TEU, up 46.4 percent from 1.63 million in 1999. By container terminal at the Port of Pusan, the Kamman terminal handled around 1.77 million TEU at the forefront, with the Hyundai Pusan Container Terminal (HBCT) following at 1.43 million TEU, and the Pusan East Container Terminal (PECT) at 1.28 million TEU. The Uam Terminal recorded 310 thousand TEU.
