Largest containership calls at Port of Pusan
The largest container vessel in the world will call at Port of Pusan regularly.
Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries revealed January 10th that 5 mega-sized vessels including the "Hyundai Kingdom", the largest container vessel with a capacity of 6,500 TEU are going to be deployed at the Port of Pusan from February 19th as it is scheduled. The Kamman pier in the Port of Pusan where the "Hyundai Kingdom" was deployed is a main terminal for Asia and the west coast of North America for New World Alliance and is connected to Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Longbeach, Oakland, and Tacoma. Hyundai Merchant Marine will replace the current 5,511 TEU vessels in this route with 6,500 TEU vessels by June 25th, launching the "Hyundai Kingdom" to serve in Asian and North American west coast trade. This new 6,500 TEU vessel series is built by Hyundai Heavy Industries, having a total capacity of 80,000 tons, and dimensions 304m long by 40m wide and 14m deep.
An official from the Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries said that this is a first for 6,500 TEU vessels to enter the Port of Pusan and also that if Pusan finishes dredging the harbor, super-sized vessels will vigorously be attracted more and more.
