Transshipments in Port of Pusan rise by 50.2%
Despite the domestic economic slowing down, container cargoes handled in the Port of Pusan increased sharply. The Pusan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries reported that until this October containers rose to 6,212,937 TEU, up 18.7 % over the same period of last year. This growth accounted for increased transshipment cargoes bound for overseas.
Import containers increased by 10.4 % to 2,036,295 TEU, and exports totaled 1,949,473 TEU showing a sharp increase of 50.2%.
Broken down to quays, Chasungdae quay handled 1,169,846 TEU, growing 43%, and especially transshipment cargoes abroad jumped up 138.2%, recording 347,829 TEU.
Shinsundae quay showed a slight increase of 9.7% to record 1,047,202 TEU. But this increase was mostly due to the result of outbound transshipment increases. Import and export cargoes in this quay recorded negative growth due to terminal strikes early this year.
Uam quay was seriously affected by the strike, treating only 251,199 TEU, down 12.2%. Transshipment cargoes also slightly increased to 6.1% in Uam.
Kamman quay showed increases in both import and export container cargoes and outbound transshipment cargoes. Container cargoes came in at 1,473,944 TEU, up 30.5% compared to the same period of last year, outbound transshipment cargoes grew 44.3%.
