Evergreen launches its eleventh P-type containership
The Evergreen Group has christened and launched its eleventh P-type full containership in a ceremony held at the Evergreen Shipyard in Nagasaki on 20 September. Evergreen Japan Corp Chairman Isao Hashimoto named the new vessel Ever Peace while Mrs Rieko Yamashiro, wife of Uni-Asia Finance Corporation President, Mr Motokuni Yamashiro, cut the rope in the ceremony witnessed by scores of invited guests.
The Evergreen Group has ordered a total of fifteen P-type full containerships from the Evergreen Shipyard, Ever Peace being the eleventh ship in the series. The first ten vessels in the series were delivered to Uniglory Marine Corporation.
The P-type has a container capacity of 1,618 TEU. She has an overall length of 182 metres, a breadth of 28 metres and a draft of 9 metres. Ever Peace and the next four ships in the series have been specified with a more powerful engine and consequently have a service speed of 19.3 knots; the earlier ships have an 18.7 knot service speed. These ships are also equipped with the latest navigational systems and have 256 reefer plugs.
The Evergreen Group owns 127 container vessels with a total capacity exceeding 350,000 TEU. By 2002, the fleet will be further expanded to 137 vessels, totalling 400,000 TEU.
