Exports to US increase by 13.7% September
Containers increased by 13.7% for September compared to the same period of last year.
According to the International Shipping Agencies Association of Korea (ISAAK) on September 11, container cargoes bound for North America marked 49,104 TEU, up 13.7% over a year earlier. This was on increase of 11.4% over August’s 43,504 TEU.
Korea ocean-going shipping companies transported 18,852 TEU in September, a 5.9% increase from 17,802 TEU in the same period of last year. Overseas shipping companies, however, transported a total of 30,252TEU, up 19.1% from 25,393 TEU during the corresponding period of last year.
In the mean time, export cargoes amounted to 136,857 TEU in the third quarter this year, a slight increase of 1.65% from 135,603 TEU during the same period last year.
In North America, cargoes bound for Canada via the US East coast for September increased by an eye-popping 59% to 3,175 TEU from last year's 1,996 TEU. Cargoes bound for Mexico jumped 33% to 2,805 TEU from 2,109 TEU last year. Central and South American bound cargoes also showed staggering increases of 65.4% to 5,317 TEU from 3,214 TEU during the same period of last year
