PECT aims for the digital age

The Pusan East Container Terminal (PECT), the largest container-dedicated terminal in Korea, is trying to transform itself into a digital terminal through the introduction of mobile logistics.

On November 7, PECT revealed that it would sign an MOU with Samsung SDS Co., Ltd., a System Integration Company, on November 8. It will agree to set up a mobile logistic system with access to complete logistic information.

PECT revealed, "We can satisfy customer needs in the midst of serious competition in the logistic hub port as well as advance port operation services. Through this signing ceremony, we will be well prepared to stand firm as the largest domestic container-dedicated terminal in the coming 21st century digital era."

"Mlogis, the total logistic information service provided by Samsung SDS, is capable of delivering effective truck-controls, trucking management, allocating scheduled intervals for trucks and providing delivery management through real-time communications with shippers, trucking companies, individual trucks through networks linked by wireless, and logistic organizations.

Both companies are going to settle on an efficient logistic system to save on logistic costs in the Port of Pusan. They will jointly provide customers with logistic information, and coordinate container-carrying trucks in Pusan with position and logistic information.

Samsung SDS is capable of providing shippers, transportation companies and truck drivers with total logistic service bases with real-time vessel schedule information, cargo stacking information, and inventory management tools.

PECT can also shorten the waiting time of cargo-trucks through efficient container transfer scheduling and simplifying internal business procedures.

The president of PECT, Kim Chang-nam, said, "We are expecting to be reborn as an international digital trading port as well as to expand our container handling capacities."

The president of Samsung SDS, Kim Hong-ki, said, "As a mobile logistic service provider, we will deliver an efficient way to do business at PECT. Moreover, we will expand our business areas into logistic consulting and logistic system integrations."
