PECT workers help get over difficulties
Workers moved to take part in solving the financial difficulties of the company.
Pusan East Container Terminal (PECT), the largest container-dedicated terminal in Korea, announced that its workers are trying to save the company by returning a day’s leave of absence per month as of November 15, 2001 when “Noh-sa Hanmaum Hanaro” held negotiations and ended management/labor conflicts that hindered the company’s escape from financial difficulties.
As PECT showed around a 7 - 8% increase in revenues compared to that of 2000, it had to pay a year-end bonus as it had done in previous years. However, workers decided not to accept the bonus, considering management difficulties in 2002.
As Evergreen moves into the Kamman terminal, scheduled for opening this coming April, PECT will likely see a 25% decline in container cargoes in 2002.
