Kwangyang completes 2-1 container terminal

As the first part of the container terminal in the second step of construction at the Port of Kwangyang was completed Feb. 20, it will mark the beginning of operations from the end of March with an opening ceremony.

The terminal originally began construction in October 1995 at a cost of 237.4 billion won with berth space measuring 1,350 meters long and 597,000 square meters. It is capable of accommodating two 50,000-ton and two 20,000-ton vessels simultaneously.

The terminal launch will allow the port to handle 2.01 million TEU of cargoes on 8 berths of which are 6 berths are for 50,000-ton vessels and two berths are for 20,000-ton vessels, as well as another four berths in the first step container terminal.
