MOMAF to reduce shipping and port logistics information costs by 5 percent from January, 2003
MOMAF(Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) plans to implement a flexible EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) tariff such as reductions and exemptions for logistics information handling costs in order to keep up with the logistics information-oriented shipping and port trend from January. 1, 2003.
December 16, MOMAF requested help from port users after explaining the tariff reduction promotion to port users of shipping lines, shipping agencies, stevedoring companies and others.
MOMAF has handled port operation information for docking and departures since 1992.
The EDI has helped in processing documents for 4 million cases and saving costs of 30 billion won yearly.
But some general wharf SMEs, ODCYs, and secondary port companies have not been built the logistics information-oriented shipping and port system yet, blocking smooth import and export operation.
To be concrete, MOMAF intends to be more flexible by exempting fees for using the Bay Plan, a 5% reduction and exemption in EDI costs for companies offering cargo information about the container terminal, and free EDI usage until the new information-oriented way of doing things is more widely adopted, and switching from the more expensive dedicated line needed for EDI to Internet based system from January 1, 2003.
MOMAF will also support the new system? construction for SMEs and spread it to general wharves and promote the Shipping & Port Logistics Information Center.
Through the Shipping & Port Logistics Information Center, MOMAF expects to save 6 billion in costs annually.
