The CIG Zhapu Terminal joins the TT Club
The Through Transport Club, the world's leading insurance specialist for the transport and logistics industry, has added the CIG Zhapu Terminal in Jiaxing City, China to its membership. The TT Club is providing the port operator with liability insurance for its handling of bulk and break bulk cargoes, the cover being effective from April 2001.
Zhapu Terminal is located on the northern half of Hangzhou Bay, which is 95km south of Shanghai, and is a petrochemical and general cargo facility. It is owned by the China Infrastructure Group (CIG). According to the TT Club, it is expected that Zhapu will expand to handle containerised cargo in the near future.
Commenting on the deal with CIG, TT Club underwriter Patrick Wong says:
"CIG is a rapidly expanding terminal operating group in China, exactly the type of company we are seeking to add to our membership here in Asia. Hopefully, our relationship with CIG will flourish further over the coming years and we will expand our business dealings with it to cover other ports and terminals in its portfolio."
The TT Club has developed a strong book of business in China and currently insures a number of container terminals in Guangdong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and elsewhere. At the end of last year the TT Club opened a representative office in Shanghai; the service team is led by Edgar Wong.
The Club maintains a close association with China's largest insurance company, the People's Insurance Company of China (PICC) and PICC is the fronting insurer in this relationship with CIG.
