Northeast Asia Port and Harbor Directors’ Symposium may be held in Sokcho
The second Northeast Asia Port and Harbor Directors' Meeting and Symposium will be scheduled to open this coming September in Sokcho, Kangwon province, with South Korea, China and Japan in attendance.
Sokcho revealed that MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries) provisionally pre-decided on Sokcho for the second Northeast Asia Port and Harbor Directors' Meeting and Symposium place after examination of current accommodations and meeting places.
Also, the Korea Maritime Institute, a government-run institute under the office of the prime minister for the maritime and fisheries industries, hinted that they would help with invitations to this symposium and theme selection.
According to this, Sokcho will confirm their hosting of the meeting before May.
Sokcho is planning to emphasize itself as a hub for cruise tours as well as opening trade between Sokcho and Hunchun, CIS, via Zarubino, Russia.
An official at Sokcho city hall expects that Sokcho will maximize indirect profits through invitations because MOMAF and concerned industries together will account for all the expenses. It will also be a good chance to reveal expectations for Korea/China/Japan cruise tours, he added.
