Lloyd Triestino rationalises its African services
The Italian shipping line Lloyd Triestino has announced that it is to phase out its direct service to and from West Africa by the end of March. After careful evaluation of the market situation, the company has decided to rationalise these services.
Effective from the end of March 2001, the Mediterranean-South Africa MSA service will cease accepting cargo to and from West Africa, previously served via the ports of Dakar and Abidjan.
The South African trade will continue to be served with two weekly connections from the Mediterranean and North Europe.
The Mediterranean -South Africa service thereafter will have the following port rotation:
Valencia - Livorno - La Spezia - Fos - Barcelona - Valencia - Cape Town - Port Elizabeth - Durban - Cape Town - Valencia.
The North Europe - South Africa service calls at:
Antwerp - Felixstowe - Cape Town - Port Elizabeth - Durban - Cape Town - Antwerp.
Lloyd Triestino has also introduced additional reefer equipment on the West Mediterranean to South African route as a direct response to demand from shippers and to generate higher efficiency and service levels within the South African market.
