Latest addition to P&O Nedlloyd fleet named in Hong Kong
The container ship "P&O Nedlloyd Houtman" formally joined the P&O Nedlloyd fleet today following a naming ceremony in Kwai Chung, Hong Kong.
The 6,800 TEU vessel was named after Cornelis de Houtman, the sixteenth century explorer, by Mrs Josje Speld, wife of Remi Speld, the former Director of Region Asia.
The "P&O Nedlloyd Houtman" is the third of four new "whale" class vessels entering the Europe-Asia service this year. Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea, she is 300 metres long and 43 metres wide and has a service speed of 24.5 knots. She will fly the Dutch flag.
The Hong Kong ceremony was hosted by P&O Nedlloyd Executive Director Rutger van Slobbe.
