Hanjin Shipping earned 95.8 billion won in sales profits in April and May
Hanjin Shipping might take in sales profits of 237 billion won for the first six months of this year, up by 63% compared to the same period of last year, estimated Daeshin Economic Research Institute July 2. It also said that Hanjin took in 31.5 billion won and 64.3 billion won in sales profits in April and May, respectively.
Sales may reach 2.49 trillion won in the first half this year under the influence of the won's depreciation, an increase by 21.8% over a year ago, the institute predicted. Hanjin is said to earn 443 billion won and 417 billion won in sales in April and May.
Song, Jae Hak, a researcher working in the research institute, anticipated that profits may shrink due to weak container rates and high oil prices. However, usually the latter half of year is the peak season, and as its financial structure has been stabilized it should go into the black this year, he predicted.
As the won may continue falling over the next year, the net income will increase though sales may shrink. Its earnings per share will increase to 1,908 from 1,201 this year.
