Hanjin's Container Transport Volume Exceeds 1 Million TEU in the First Half
During the first half of this year, Hanjin's volume of transported containers was up 4.8% from last year, reaching an all-time high of 1045 thousand TEU.
On June 24, the Hanjin Athens, a 5600 TEU container vessel, departed from Kaosing, Taiwan and headed for Long Beach, CA equipped with 3148 TEU of container goods. The vessel's arrival marked Hanjin's 1 million TEU mark breakthrough for a half-year period, and is thus cause for much excitement.
The majority of Hanjin's container transportation occurred along transpacific routes, which accounted for 503 thousand TEU, up 5.4% from last year. Routes to Europe held 301 thousand TEU, while Asia and Atlantic routes increased a considerable 27.3% from last year, transporting 251 thousand TEU.
The length of one million containers is approximately, 6096 km, about the distance between Seoul and Alaska. Its height is also roughly 689 times that of Mt. Everest, which stands at 8848 meters.
Hanjin currently operates 122 vessels including 46 container and 76 bulk, and has set its target volume at 2.16 million TEU for this year. Hanjin, along with its German subsidiary Senator Lines is ranked number 4 in the world liner shipping industry.
